American Culture for Newcomers: What You Need to Know Now! (Self-Paced) Adjusting to life in the U.S. can feel confusing—even when you speak English. This self-paced course gives you clear, practical explanations of everyday American culture so you can communicate with more confidence, avoid common misunderstandings, and feel more at home. You’ll learn what American culture is (and isn’t), and how key values like individualism, equality, time, and direct communication show up in real life—at work, in public, and in daily conversations. You’ll also get guidance on small talk, “How are you?” meanings, email and messaging basics, personal space and boundaries, customer service and complaints, tipping culture, workplace hierarchy, meetings, feedback expectations, and navigating diversity with respect and inclusion.
